Standing Still: Recognizing You’re Not Falling Behind
Lately, I’ve felt like I’m standing still. Everyone around me seems to be moving forward—getting the promotions, launching the businesses, hitting the milestones. And me? I’m just trying to make it through the day. No big wins, no major achievements—just showing up and doing what needs to be done.
If I’m honest, it feels like I’m falling behind. Like I’m not doing enough. Like my excellence has taken a back seat to survival.
But then I pause. I step back. And I remind myself of something I often tell others:
This? This is excellence, too.
We live in a world that celebrates the big moves—the headline-worthy successes. But we don’t talk enough about the quiet excellence of staying the course. Of pushing forward when life feels heavy. Of holding on when everything around you is shifting.
But that is excellence, too.
Every small step I’ve taken? It counts. Every day I’ve chosen to get up and keep moving? That’s progress. Every time I’ve shown up even when I felt unsure? That’s resilience.
I may not see it now. I may feel like I’m treading water. But my excellence is showing—in ways I might not recognize yet.
So this week, I hope you give yourself credit for the things no one sees. For the work that doesn’t get celebrated. For the progress that’s happening beneath the surface.
Because one day, we’ll look back and realize: Our excellence was there all along.
As always, wah fi yuh, cyaan un fi yuh.
